Marriage= Work

Hi there, its been awhile since I've last updated. A lot has been going on since then. We spent our first christmas at the fire station. Which I actually love doing. I love being around all of the other fire families and bonding. Everyone brings different entrees and its just one big feast. Not to mention this year we got to watch the Charger game.

Dec. 22, 2009 escrow finally closed and we became home owners. We tore up the tile, the carpet, repainted the entire place and repaired the floor where there was mold from the green thumbed occupants before us (they were growing some good ol' mary jane). Thanks to our good friends Natasha and STephen we saved a ton of money with purchasing the tile and carpet and then Stephen has been laying the tile for us for free!! Don't worry we're giving them something good to say thank you!

We got to spend our first night in our house on Saturday Feb. 13, 2010! I know it took us forever to finally get in but it looks so good. Its still not finished but we're getting close. We have a new fridge, kitchen table, computer, and couch now! Oh and our christmas present to each other was a 52" flat screen tv. :)

Anyways, its been nice to finally live there and much needed for our relationship. You don't realize how much being on your own once you get married means until you have to live with your parents for 6 months. It was a blessing that my parents let us stay with them but it was definitely time to be out.

Marriage has definitely not been easy. But you know they say that you're first year is the hardest and I would concur with that. My parents always told me marriage was constant work and i think I always thought I understood that but you don't really until you're in the situation. My parents make it look so easy. Awesome role models to look up too. I thank them for showing/demonstrating the way a good, loving marriage is. I think it has helped me. We're at the 6 month mark and I'd have to say these first 6 months have been some work but you know what? I think it's only made our relationship stronger. We've been learning a lot about each other and learning new ways to communicate. Having God as a foundation for our relationship is such a.... can't think of the right word... but its such a secure to know that we have him behind us, with us, watching us, and holding our hand.

We just spent our first valentines day together and Zach surprised me and took me up to Palm Springs. WE went to LG's STeakhouse for dinner (which used to be our anniversary spot in SD before they closed taht one) So up to palm springs we went. We enjoyed the first day there and relaxed. Zach got a hotel room for 2 nights at the Hotel Zoso. Amazing place. Second day we got up went to breakfast and then Zach surprised me with a couples massage... then later on in the day a carriage ride through downtown Palm Springs... it was an amazing weekend. And one we really needed.

I'll post pictures of that weekend later! Well, thats the update for now. Marriage is work, but so worth the work especially when you're so in love.

No more christmas desserts!

So this weekend was filled with lots and lots of christmas parties! Friday night started with Zach and I meeting my parents and our family friend Matt (who was visiting us for the weekend) at C Level in Harbor island for a few cocktails. From there we went to my work Christmas party. It was a great night... of course there was drama. When isnt' there drama when you work with 12 other ladies? Ha. But regardless a great night.

Saturday Zach took Matt surfing for his second time ever while i helped my mom set up for her christmas party. We first went to Zach's work Christmas party at 5:30 and then were back to my house by 8 for my mom's christmas party! It was a fun night.

But here's the problem.... Great parties = Great desserts. I have eaten so many brownies, cookies, cakes, gummy bears, M&M's, etc.etc. etc. I think i'm going to have to go to the gym for like a hundred hours just to work off one cookie! Not to mention the adult beverages.

Basically, this was a great weekend but horrible for any sort of diet... I keep telling myself i'll start tomorrow.

We'll see how that goes.

Turkey Day!

So we just celebrated our first Thanksgiving together. It was really nice. We actually went camping at the beach at San Elijo. The weather couldn't have been more perfect... the first 3 days lol. We were sleeping in a tent that was clearly made for the summer so we were freezing at night but during the day it was just perfect. Zach brought his new smoker up and he smoked his first turkey! It came out sooo good. He was really proud of himself. I was proud of him too and relieved cause I was hungry and ready for some turkey!

My parents had a campspot too so my mom made all the side dishes. We had my brother and his brother come up for dinner. It was really nice. We've decided that we want to make that a tradition of ours. I love it that now that we're married we can make a bunch of new traditions since its like we're starting new. So this is our first tradtion. I'm sure we'll have plenty more. ha.

Here are some pictures of the day!

About Us

So I thought it would be fun to have a blog about our first year together! We've been married for 14 going on 15 weeks... wow its going fast. We've been living with my parents until we buy our first house. We put an offer on a townhome 4 months ago and FINALLY we are in escrow. Looks like escrow will close Dec. 14th... some christmas present don't you think?

Zach is a firefighter... and a really hot one. :) I've just graduated from college with my BS in Kinesiology. I'm in the middle of applying to Physical Therapy school. Hopefully I get in. It'd be nice to start making some money. I'm sure everyone can understand that.

Anyways, i'll keep this short cause i'm really tired but I wanted to get this started. But welcome to the world of the Loftis' :) Hope you enjoy.
